Position Summary:

As Grindstone Award Foundation enters an exciting phase of expansion, we are seeking a passionate and skilled Executive Director to lead our operations, partnerships, and strategy implementation. This individual will have the opportunity to guide and influence the charity’s future.

 

Under the governance of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the agency, ensuring quality, efficient, effective operations and accountability.

 

The Executive Director is responsible for overall leadership and management, and provides vision, direction and long-term strategy to the organization. The Executive Director will assist the Board of Directors to execute policies, goals and objectives that will fulfil the organization’s vision, mission and values. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Implementation

●        Oversee all operational aspects of the organization, ensuring quality as well as efficient, effective operations and accountability

●        Lead the implementation of Grindstone’s strategic goals and initiatives

●        Provide direction and continuity across leadership

●        Risk Management - identify and evaluate the risks to the organization’s people (participants, employees, volunteers), property, finances, goodwill, and image and implement measures to control risks

●        Foster a collaborative and mission-driven organizational culture

●        Ensure services are developed consistent with community needs

 

Board and Governance Support

●      Act as the liaison between the Board of Directors and operational committees

●      Work with the Board of Directors to further develop the vision, mission and strategic plan to guide the organization

●      Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed policy decisions

●      Gather, interpret and articulate information to the Board about community trends and resources as they relate to enhancing the Board's capacity for effective communication, decision making and long-term planning

●      Assist the Board, in co-operation with the Board Chair, in its development, including recruitment, orientation, committees, etc.

●      Support governance continuity between outgoing and incoming board members

 

Operations & Administration

●      Manage daily organizational operations, including administrative systems and project coordination

●      Support compliance, risk management, and reporting responsibilities.

●      Work with pillar leads to monitor and ensure efficiencies and productivity

 

Financial Management and Innovation

●      Manage the financial integrity of the organization by developing strategic financial plans and fund development initiatives in conjunction with the team, to ensure the long-term financial sustainability and health of the organization

●      Identify and pursue grant opportunities; prepare and submit proposals

●      Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization

●      Work with the Treasurer to prepare the annual budget

●      Ensure maximum resource utilization and maintenance to maintain organizational stability and maximize operations capacity toward a positive financial position

●      Ensure financial viability by seeking revenue generating opportunities to stabilize and diversify the organization’s financial base

●      Lead fundraising initiatives and campaigns

●      Maintain and strengthen donor and sponsor relationships

●      Track donations, manage fundraising records, and ensure donor stewardship

 

Human Resource Coordination

●      Support the HR committee with recruiting, onboarding, and supporting volunteers and other personnel

 

Qualifications Required:

●      Undergraduate degree required - preference given to a post-graduated degree in a related field

●      Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role within the community social service sector

●      Demonstrated skill and experience writing successful funding proposals and positive donor relations

●      Experience in strategic planning and policy development

●      Knowledge of compliance and governance in the non-profit sector

●      Exceptional skills in critical thinking, organizational and environmental awareness, communication, problem solving, resource and fiscal management, decision making, judgement, leadership, coaching and mentoring

●      Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment

●      Proficiency with office tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and databases

●      Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills

 

Preferred:

●      Interest or background in hockey, women’s sports, or community athletics

●      Bilingualism (French/English) is a strong asset.
